Why is the Yellow sea called yellow?
In the Western part, where the coastal zone is located, the waters of the Yellow sea do have a yellowish tinge.
This is due to the fact that the sea in this area is shallow, and deposits of yellow sand silt from the mouth of the great Chinese river Huanghe spread for many kilometers.
By the way, the sea and the river in this case are namesakes, yellow river is translated from Chinese as”Yellow river”.
Contribute to the “yellowness” of the Yellow sea and frequent dust storms on the coast and over the sea area. They can be so formidable that due to storms it is necessary to stop the movement of ships. For the same reason, swimming in the Yellow sea is not considered completely safe.
