Why is the Black sea called black?

There is no single and fully reliable version on this subject.

According to the Turks, the name dates back to the time when their country pursued an active aggressive policy and tried to conquer the coastal peoples.

Those, of course, offered fierce resistance, which is why the Turks called the sea “Karaden-Giz”, which can be translated as both black and inhospitable, evil sea. Continue reading →
